~  Teddy  ~
Adopted December 2010

  December 31, 2010
We are happy to report that Teddy has been adopted by his foster family  :)

Teddy ~  14 yrs "young"

Oh my gosh, how cute is this little guy? Teddy came to sheltie rescue close to two years ago because his owner has been ill & is no longer able to care for him. The first thing Teddy does when he sees you is to run & find his toy ~ all ready for a nice game of tug.

Due to Teddy's severe separation anxiety issues & increasing health problems,  he is now considered a "long term foster", meaning that he will stay with his foster mom/dad for the rest of his days.

If you would like to make a donation to help with Teddy's medical bills,  please click on the "sponsor me" button, which will take you directly to his listing on PetFinder.   All donations are 100% tax deductible.

** Update **    We'd like to thank our Rescue Angels for sponsoring Teddy

Teddy is now considered a "forever foster" because he's been with his foster mom for two years and it's really not a good idea to move him to a  new home at this point [he's about 12 now].

If you would be interested in fostering Teddy [donations towards his continued medical care],  please click here:

Pup Date  August 2008

Teddy is doing really well.   He is on Thyroid Medication and has lost 10 pounds  already.   He is way more active now than he when he first came to rescue.    He is taking joint Vitamins ~  really helping with his arthritis.   Now he flies around the yard and plays with his ball and toys !!      Loves going to the park with his ball and running around to everyone & saying hi!!

Still has a little anxiety,  but starting to trust more & feeling more confident now.    Foster Mommie has been introducing him to everyone and he's getting used to everyone now.     Also getting used to water ~   Last weekend he laid in a doggie pool while Aunt Nina was "puppy sitting" .     He had a blast   :)    [Aunt Nina said that Teddy followed her husband around everywhere]

Teddy cannot go to a home with children under age 12.  Even though he has been around them a lot, we don't feel that it's a good idea.     Believe he needs to be with another dog as well ~  one that is older & past the puppy/young dog "super playful energy stage"      [i.e.,  one that won't bother him as much as 1-yr old Bailey].

Groomed/shaved .... now he REALLY looks like a TeddyBear :)

Pup Date  February 20, 2008

Needs to have another dog ...    not one that's only 1 year old......    but not one that' a senior who lays around all day.    He likes playing and running around with another furkid.

As far as "chasing people to or around the door when they try to leave" ~  that was exaggerated.    He does that once in awhile, but not too often.   He has never done it with his foster mom.     He barks at everyone outside.   When they approach him, he will bark..... but will go over to them and wag his tail.    He won't bite.   He doesn't go after anyone.     His foster mom has worked a lot on this with him.

He just needs a lot of LOVE and to be reassured, and we're sure he will be fine.

He is losing weight..... starting to get an hourglass figure.

***  He goes up the stairs, but has a hard time ~  weight is a factor, possibly some arthritis as well.

Pup-date  February 11th

Teddy has been with his foster family for about a week.   New information:

Teddy is fitting right in & feeling quite at home.   He has the routine down and is doing very well with Bailey [young & energetic sheltie].    He runs around with the toy in his mouth  "growling" to tell you that he wants to play.    He might be a roly-poly little bear, but can keep up with Bailey any day of the week.    We're sure that the exercise & proper diet will help get him back to a healthy weight in no time.      His foster mom also thinks that Teddy should be placed in a home with another playful dog, since he gets SO MUCH enjoyment from the interaction.

His original owner warned us that Teddy will "go after the back of your legs" when you try to leave.   First,  understand that shelties are herding dogs and that is how they get sheep [or people] to go in "the right direction" ... by nipping at the back of the ankles/legs.       As far as Teddy's  reaction goes .... he doesn't want you to leave.    He does NOT chase his foster mom to the door, but instead he gets his toy and goes to the door to say good bye.    His foster mom is working with him on this.

There have been people coming/going, so he's getting used to visitors/company [didn't have much socialization before]. He's being taught to "say HI" .... followed with the positive reinforcement of getting attention from whoever is coming into the house.

Teddy is 11 years young ~ a lovable little man.   Came to rescue because his owner has been ill and is no longer able to take care of him.

He is overweight from lack of exercise, too much food, as well as a Thyroid condition, but is now on medication for that [very inexpensive].

According to his foster mom, Teddy follows you everywhere you go.    He loves attention and needs it badly.   He has a favorite toy that came with him, but gets all excited if he finds other toys to play with  [grabbed Bailey's pink stuffed bone and ran around the house with it in his mouth].   Can really "move it" for an older,  overweight boy..... he's got a little spunk to him.   Walks well on a leash, rides well in the car.    House trained ...he will let you know when he wants to go out.    If you say, "want to go out?" he knows what it means.

No Children... we don't think that is a good idea since he is older.
