Shadow ~ is now Charlie
Adopted November 18, 2007

Shadow is Gizmo's 1/2 brother

Pup-Date November 3, 2008 from "mom and dad"

Charlie turned six on October 31st and his first year anniversary of being with us is approaching, already!  He is still settling in, most days he is usually relaxed but weeks can go by and then we'll find him hiding.   Charlie doesn't go into the dining room, but the other week we found him there, hiding... he was afraid to tell us he was sick.  Ray and I cuddled him and seeing that he was having bloody stools, off we went to the doctor where we learned Charlie had a temperature of 103.8  so he was put on an antibiotic and now he's fine.  Charlie doesn't like to bother me so he "helps" himself from the counter and had eaten about four ounces of raw hamburger ...thus the illness.  I'm trying to remember to put the food way back against the wall so as not to temp the fellow, he definite IS a good dog!

He helps me a lot around the house, doing yard work plus we run errands together, driving to Agway to buy his food and snacks where Charlie enjoys being able to stroll thru the store (on his leash) and greet the other customers. He's grand company and Rosie, our puppy mill mother, has accepted him and at night she snuggles up against him.  So there Ray and I are in bed, sometimes Charlie between u,s but he and Rose have a pillow at the bottom of the bed and they do use it.

He and I walk the development twice a day, a total of 2 miles, and Charlie looks forward to meeting the neighbors and other dogs and being able to stop and play.

Ray and I both think Charlie is somewhat apprehensive, not knowing this is his forever home, but in time, maybe even two or three years, he'll come to realize that this is home. We're glad we have him and we sit on the floor and talk to him and we're beginning to understand his different facial expressions.  He is a delight and tries so hard to please us and freely gives his love and kisses.

His unruly coat is coming along nicely and has a nice sheen to it and the neighbors stop and admire him and Ray and I are always told how beautiful he is and sometimes when he looks at me I feel he would really like to talk and have a discussion

Pup-Date   March 26, 2008

Shadow is doing fine and has been renamed Charlie.   We gave him another name because we have two other Shadows in our development, plus I thought a new name for a new start would help get over any bad memories he might have.

He has a regular routine, walks, play time with other dogs….plus the newly adopted "grand-dog", Rufus, staying with us during the day until our son picks him up after work.  Our son and his wife got this dog, an 8 month old, black and silver colored flat coated retriever, at the Humane League… unfortunately the same old story, he was tied out and starving.  I guess a neighbor called the Humane League and an officer came and took this sweet fellow to the shelter where he was then placed for adoption.

The other day I remembered the neckerchief you gave us.   Before putting it on, let Charlie inspect and sniff it ….he started bouncing around all happy and delighted, so I asked him if it had "good Krissie scents".  He is such a wonderful loving fellow and visitors remark at how well behaved he is.

Yesterday, the doorbell rang and it was a stranger ….. wow!  Absolutely no one will ever come in this house uninvited.  He just seems to have a knack knowing who lives in our development.

I could go on and on about what a great fellow Charlie is, but the main purpose of the e-mail is to let you know he is fine and he is loved.  Thank you for trusting us with him.

Fondly,  Mary and Ray

Pup Date  November 21st from Shadow's new mom & dad :)

Shadow met our family vet this afternoon and the receptionists and techs just raved about him, how beautiful and what a nice, quiet, gentle disposition he has.
We were given a good report and he doesn't have to go back for another year.  The doctor was impressed with his beautiful teeth.

When we returned home and he walked into the house, Rose [our puppy mill rescue] ran to meet him and tried to nuzzle him, so it looks as though the two of them will be getting along well.     He enjoys walking through our development and walks nicely on the leash.  Since getting the healthy report from our doctor, we e-mailed everyone that Shadow is now receiving company, the neighbors and their dogs are now welcome to visit so that everyone can get acquainted.  I'm anxious to see how he reacts to one of the dogs, a St. Bernard.  This big fellow is tiny Rose's buddy and she enjoys his company.

We sit on the floor and cuddle him because even though he doesn't show it, we feel this is an emotionally difficult time for him.

Shadow & his foster brother, Bailey
Well now ~ doesn't he look right at home :) and look at how nicely he blends with the furniture
November 7, 2007

Shadow LOVES the camera as you can tell...LOL

He has been in foster care for 2 days now ~  loves attention and follows he's Foster Mom everywhere.   A happy, laid back, easy going boy ~  he greets you when you come home with tail wagging all over the place.    Shadow is house trained and walks well on a lease.  A little hesitant with strangers, however he is a great watch dog... only barks when someone is at the door, knocks or rings the bell.     He likes his foster brother Bailey ~  they greet each other in the early a.m. and are ready to go!!!    Play with toys,  with fetch/bring back to you.  Also knows some commands if repeated a few times.   Sleeps down stairs at night, but his foster mom isn't sure if he sleeps in his bed or on the couch yet.

In summary ~  "Shadow is a doll        A very sweet good boy!! "
