Laddie
fostered April - August 2003

Laddie came to us in early April.   He was 10 years old and had one home his entire life.   Original owners suffered health problems... his mom died and then his dad  had to go to a nursing home.   It’s so hard on dogs in this situation ~  you can tell they know what has happened and you can see the grief in their eyes.

He was extremely sweet and had a nice, stable temperament ~ not perturbed by activity on the street ~ didn't lunge or bark at cars, bicycles, other folks walking their dogs [complete opposite of Miss Sashi].      He visited his foster mom's workplace on a couple of occasions and made quite a hit with everyone there.  Tagged along to the copier, the fax machine, all through the office suite ... never barked even though there were lots of folks coming in/out ~ from students to faculty to constant deliveries from USPS, UPS, and FedExpress.

While Laddie was being fostered,  Hamlet/Sammie was added to the mix around Easter.    Laddie loved to tag along after Hamlet & would try to join in the more boisterous games of tag  between Sashi & Hamlet.    Unfortunately,  Sashi wasn't too keen on "sharing"  her new playmate because he was showing her things she'd never tried ~ like playing tug and wrestling.     Laddie was a bit too "proper" for that sort of thing  [had nothing to do with his age .... I think he was probably "born proper" ].

When Hamlet was adopted in early July,   Laddie's foster mom hoped to adopt him because he was so sweet and nice to be with.    But the Princess wouldn't stand for that!  It became obvious that she was going to harrass this quiet, well mannered gentleman until he found a different home.   With the help of Carol Kukulya,   Laddie was placed with a wonderful family who had NICE shelties for him to play with.

Laddie quickly became part of the gang :)
answer ...Princess Sashi
hmmm ... who in this group went to obedience lessons?

Laddie kept slipping behind his soft, makeshift bed

so we got him a new one ... hmm, still a few problems
OK, he got the hang of it after a few tries
Let's all dress up for July 4th .... oh, the look just says it all :)

**  Laddie was with his new mom & "sheltie brothers"  for about a year when he was diagnosed with cancer.   He went to the bridge soon after ~  but we know that his last 12+  months were spent with a forever mom who loved him dearly.
