We wanted to give you an update on Cody. I have attached a couple of pictures of Cody after a hard day of “being a dog”.
We absolutely love him and are enjoying his companionship and his warm hugs & kisses. He adapted very well at his new home. For the first week, he wasn’t quite sure what was going on, and he was a little timid with people, but it did not take him long to join in the family life.
We are still working on his weight problem. It seems to not really change, even though we are careful on how much we feed him. We take him for walks, but he doesn’t like to walk at more than a snail’s pace ! We are thinking that he has no great love for exercise. 
Other than that, he loves his new home and gets along just fine with our cats. They pretty much ignore each other. He loves to cuddle with us, and he loves his belly rubbed …. and as much attention as he can get. Luckily there is a never-ending supply of that at our house!!
We are very thankful for the sheltie rescue program, as they have provided a wonderful addition to our house.

Update June 9th ~ Cody has been adopted :)
Cody just turned 7 in March. He's a tri-color sheltie, about 17" at the shoulder. Due to unfortunate circumstances, his owner had to move to a place that doesn't allow dogs.
Initial reports from Cody's foster mom are: he's OK with dogs; she doesn't have a cat we don't have a way of testing him on that yet; he's been good with various children he's met of all ages... but he DOES have a strong herding instinct and that means he'll chase after kids when they are running around the house, yard, etc. For this reason, we will not place Cody in a home with children under age 8. Don't want him to be bowling anyone over while "herding" them.
Cody will need to lose weight !!! He has either had too much food, not enough exercise ....or a combination of both [like some of us people]. He will be put on a diet & have more walks, etc. to get that waistline back. His foster mom says he walks very nicely on leash. Also going to check his thyroid level as a precaution, since shelties are prone to hypothyroidism. IF he needs medication for this condition, it is very inexpensive and easy to give.
Like many shelties, Cody does not like the "evil vacuum cleaner" and will bark and bark and bark at it. Shelties can be trained not to do this "positive reinforcement training" just takes some time & patience.
