Buddy The Wild Child
fostered summer/fall of 2003; adopted January 2004

Buddy came from a shelter in Blackwood NJ.    At 18 months old, he was a lively 45 lb PUPPY ~  always had a happy expression, extremely energetic ~ EXUBERANT in his play style and displays of affection to strangers and family alike.

He was quite a handful !!!   Constantly getting into things either out of curiosity or bids for “negative attention”.    He was often found inside the agility tunnel with his “prize”, happily chewing away.   During his first 3 months, he destroyed things ranging from inexpensive flip-flops to a dental retainer grabbed off the bathroom sink, leather camera case  [the camera itself survived, thank goodness], and all the plastic knobs from a toy.    Clean-up was rather “colorful” for the next couple of days.  No matter how naughty he was,  he’d look up at you with those wonderful eyes .... you just couldn't be upset with him :)

Buddy's exuberant play style and size could have been a problem …..  but Sashi had him totally wrapped around her paw from the start.   He was submissive and acknowledged her as alpha in all things.    He loved to nudge her, play bow, put his leg over her back, sniff her ear ~ anything that would entice her to chase him through the agility tunnels and up/down the stairs.   When she caught up with him, he’d immediately roll on his back and let her chew on his legs, pull his ears & tail... even grab at his throat.     Then he'd bounce up and the chase would begin again.

The two were made for each other.  It was the joke of NJ Sheltie Rescue that Sashi had adopted Buddy ~ it was just a matter of time before her mom realized it and completed the adoption contract !!!

What a happy face....

best friends forever :)
Their Favorite Game ....
Tag/Hide-n-Seek through the agility tunnels

Buddy runs in one end ....
..... and Sashi goes to intercept

Buddy has taught Sashi how to play & stop taking life so seriously ~  she even has a sense of humor now!!!    You can tell, because she's learned to tease you into a game of keep-away as you chase her around the sofa and under the dining room table :)

Movie clip below show the two of them at their favorite passtime..... tearing around our little living/dining room.    Perfect example of herding play style ~  running, nipping at the hind leg(s), spinning & sudden changes in direction ~  the dining room table and chairs become an agility course !!!

One of the best things about Buddy is his Silly Peter Pan-Forever Puppy personality

Update 2006

Buddy has come into his own over the past year or so,
acting as an "indulgent uncle" to our foster kids.

He lets the smaller ones win at tug-of-war,
endures tussle/wrestle/tag around the dining room table ....
while one of them is holding onto his tail !!
