~ Buddy  "from NY"  ~
adopted February 2008

Buddy was just adopted [YEAH !!!!!]  and we are hoping to get updated pictures & "stories" from his new family.

See his blue eye? Shows he's a "sable merle"

"Buddy from New York";  4 yrs old,  Sable Merle,  about 35 lbs [could lose a few],  medium size.

Was originally in the Staten Island Shelter in November 2007 because the owner was moving to a home where no pets were allowed. He got adopted that same day. That’s Great, right??   Unfortunately, Buddy was not good with children, and was returned a month later  [that's why behavior assessment and foster homes are SO IMPORTANT].

Buddy is currently safe, boarded in a NJ kennel while we look for appropriate forever home.   He's been evaluated by several folks with dog experience:  he's crate trained, housebroken, walks well on leash [albeit, a bit excited since he's cooped up in the kennel], knows  "sit", paw", "go to your room",  affectionate, enjoys being petted.  One of our volunteers visits him when she has a chance ...brought some toys ~  he loves to fetch and play with them.

He's not 'aggressive'  .... he plays like a big dog, that is  ....he' a bit rough & tumble, he's mouthy  ... probably that's how original owners "taught him" to play.

Buddy is very sweet and we are sure he will be a great pet, but we feel he's going to need a home with someone who has had shelties in the past and knows the breed, & will have the patience and time to spend with him as he transitions to a new/better life.    He has a lot of energy and evidently was used to a big yard where he could run/jump/play.
Because he plays like a 'big dog', he can be with other dogs his size or larger [did well with a visiting golden retriever], but is too overwhelming for smaller furkids [didn't do well with smaller/submissive sheltie].

Absolutely   NO children.

Buddy has a lot to say .....
... probably telling his visitor all about his adventures the last few months
I can almost hear him, can't you?

"     and then, do you know what they did to me  ???

well .... you'll never believe this !!!!!!

tossed me away like an old shoe just because they were moving !!!   "
