Big Jake
What a sweet Boy !!!
Jake was brought in as a stray ~ terribly dirty, matted, thin. He had a very bad infection in both ears (one ear looks broken rather than "tipped") and teeth that were covered in plaque. At 20" he was a rather BIG sheltie, thus the name BIG Jake.
It took about 3 weeks of antibiotics to clear up his ear infection, his teeth were cleaned [lost a canine] and at the ripe old age of 8+ he was finally neutered. One of SSPSNJ’s volunteer groomers, Carol Kukulya, worked her magic and Jake's beautiful russet colored coat came to life. He went to Mt. Laurel because Laddie had just been placed and there was a [relatively] quiet place for him to recuperate.
We will never know what Jake had been through, but his temperament won our hearts. He was pretty laid back for a sheltie and also friendly enough to be petted by strangers when out on a walk. He'd come up and lay his head on your lap for petting or if you were standing, he'd position his head right under your hand (very easy due to his height). He and Princess Sashi did pretty well together once she realized that he wouldn’t tolerate her bossy snapping ~ he’d growl, but not do anything else because she heeded his warning. They’d all go for walks together in the park, looking a bit like Mutt and Jeff due to size difference.
In early September, Jake was adopted by a wonderful family just 5 miles away in Moorestown. He now has a huge yard, squirrels to chase, and a mom who gives him lots of love (I'm guessing he's become a bit spoiled :)
