~ Abbey ~
November 7, 2007

Just look at that sad little face...... this is her old home, where she had to be kept away from the toddlers
This is Abbey in her Foster Home ~ she gets to be wherever she wants !!
Abbey is 10 years old ~ and totally adorable !!!!

She was the baby of the family for seven years ... then her parents had those 2-legged critters, also known as babies.   Now they are ages one and three,  and Abbey is not happy at all.   She has bitten the one-yr old and her parents have come to the heartbreaking conclusion that Abbey must go to a new home.

She sounds darling ~ doesn't bark/whine when left alone, "alert barks" if doorbell rings, but isn't a "nuisance barker".  She's spayed, in good health except for some arthritis in her back leg (but then, a lot of us have some arthritis at this point in life).  Good with adults/no gender preference ... but obviously not young children.  She can live in either an apartment or a single house, has lived with cats but "wasn't crazy about them";  is OK with "some dogs".

Just look at that face ~  how can you resist adopting this precious little girl and giving her a loving, child-free home

Abbey went to her foster home on December 9th.

Pup-date December 11th
She appears to be adjusting well.    She is a bit sad, as one would totally expect, but does wag her tail and get excited when we get her excited about something.   She is very obedient as well.

After 15 minutes of loudly talking with our dog Sammie last evening, she is coping well this morning and they can be in the same room with me without making a peep.
Looks like she's claimed THAT chair <smile>

She has been introduced to the family (all dog lovers who could not wait to meet her), and she did very very well.   Of course shy, but who wouldn't be.   After a few minutes she was walking up to all of them for some much deserved loving. Sammie and Abbey have also been doing very very well.   They get nose to nose every once in a while where they smell each other, then show a little teeth, then just lay down near each other.   Sammie wanted to play with her last night, but Abbey was a bit shy although you could tell she wanted to also play...but wasn't quite sure of Sammie yet. Hopefully by the end of the week I can have them playing together.

She has chosen this chair in our rec room as her's. When she isn't following us around, she can be found vegging on it.

Abbey loves to play with her new rope toy

and here she is with her foster GrandDad, Sarge & Sammie ...TREAT TIME
Decembe 12th  PupDate :)

As you will see, Abbey loves her new rope toy.  She plays for 10 -15 minutes with the toy, but would rather play one on one.  She does not like it when Sammie is around and will ignore the toy altogether.   Sammie on the other hand... who never liked to play with toys.... all of a sudden loves them.  So her foster parents have play time with both furkids in separate parts of the house & no one feels left out.

After playtime on Tuesday night, it was Abbey's favorite time....TREAT TIME.   She will honestly do anything for a treat ;-) She sat so beautifully by the fire after we played waiting for her treat, as you will see from the photo.

Stopped by Sammie's Grandparents house to see Sarge. As you will see from the photo of the three dogs....they all love TREAT TIME. They all sat very nice without any altercasions. (photo is Sammie to the left, Sarge in the middle and Abbey laying on the floor to the right with PopPop handing out the goodies).

While Sammie and Sarge run around and play, Abbey will sit, alert and watch the fun. She has no issues investigating or just strolling around, but will not interact in the play yet. She will, however, let both Sammie and Sarge know if they are getting a little too rough near her though, with a show of teeth and a low growl.

She has even started to give her foster mom & dad kisses...which they love.

Pup-Date  December 23, 2007

Abbey has been taking the supplements that Donna recommended and she is like a new dog!!
She wants to play all the time and she runs around like her arthritis is gone.   Yesterday we were outside for a bit and she found one of the many frisbees we have scattered around the yard and wanted us to play with her. It was a lot of fun. We only played for about 8 throws as we didn't want to over exert her...but she really enjoyed it.

Abbey and Sammie are finally coming to some sort of understanding as well. It looks as if Abbey has chosen me as her human and Sammie is Chris'. Its funny how things work out with them.

Pup-Date  December 26, 2007Sammie, Sarge & Abbey were all patiently waiting to play frisbee with us on Christmas. They all received new frisbees (to add to the collection of deteriorating ones in our backyard from months of play).  Abbey is terrific at frisbee and loves to play a few tosses.

We had about 10 people over for Christmas dinner and Abbey did wonderfully!!   She only barked for a few minutes as guests arrived, but once they were settled in, so was Abbey. She was very friendly with everyone and unlike Sammie, was not under my feet in the kitchen while I prepared the dinner. She sat patiently under the dinning room table waiting for the feast to begin and hopefully get a few handouts (very very smart!!).

After everyone left, we found the two of them passed out on the couch. It was an exciting day for both.

Sammie & Abbey, tuckered out after a wonderful Christmas with family and friends :)

And here's the Best Pup-Date of all.......
December 27, 2007

Abbey totally melted our hearts when she first arrived.... but as you know, its the dogs that choose you.

We have felt these past few weeks that she has chosen to stay with us.....and she has chosen me as her 'human'.   But it was when our family and friends were over on Christmas and they all told us how Abbey just fits right into our little family that we realized she was "officially home".
